A YOUnique Approach To Optimum Health

As you know, we are not short on nutritional or lifestyle information, in fact, we are bombarded with many different opinions about health, eating and at the end of the day, we need to make decisions that will suit our unique genetic make-up. Which is why we believe in giving you the right tools so that you can make the best and wisest decisions for your unique body. Prescriptive eating is needed in certain circumstances, however, we believe you're made to know what will work for you.. let us empower you in looking after your body and soul well. 

At YOUnique Life, we have discovered a few things along our personal journeys towards optimal health and vitality. This is something we inherently long for as human beings - to thrive in optimum health and wholeness. This desire is awesome, and it is okay to long for vitality, which is why we'd love to share the principles we operate in when it comes to optimal health. 

YOUnique Life principles for optimal health:

  • We don’t follow a specific diet as each body requires a YOUnique approach [aka: it is unique to your body, because your body is unique] 
  • We don’t follow a specific macronutrient (protein, carbohydrates and fats) ratio-reliant approach. 
  • We believe you have the innate ability to know which food choices are optimal for your health i.e. Intuitive Eating.
  • There's no such thing as good or bad foods, there are simply poor choices and better choices.
  • A healthy gut equates to a healthy mind. We encourage a restorative gut health approach.
  • We promote REAL food, from the soil to your mouth principles.
  • No refined sugar in any form - in order to rewire the brain and retrain your palate you need to eliminate the things that hinder this process.
  • We promote eating food with minimal amounts of processing involved.
  • Portion control is important (we sometimes tend to over-eat unnecessarily).
  • Consistency is key as new habits are formed and become routine.
  • Physical movement is a must (we are made to move our bodies!) 

There is no bad food or good food! Food is food and it has a various number of effects on your body once consumed. Food is made up of either processed food with additives (e.g. potato crisps) or it has arrived on your plate directly from the farmer with minimal intervention (e.g. a boiled potato). If you have a mind-set that a particular food or food group is off-limits or “bad” you become a slave to that food. Food then holds power over you. Ultimately you feel deprived, weak and struggle with self-control around this food as it continues to hold you captive. With this mindset in place, you are then more likely to binge eat or develop hyper controlling strategies to help you cope around this off-limit food. 

The questions you should be asking yourself before you eat or purchase any food are these:

  1.     Will this food or drink I choose to eat feed my cells and nourish my body correctly? 

AND

  1.     Am I being kind to my body and myself by eating or drinking this?

We challenge you to feast on these questions and ask them quietly to yourself at every feeding opportunity and you will gain valuable insight as to the direction you need to take to gain your health back and start living your YOUnique Life
